A New Kind of Heavy Hauling: Texas Spotting of Horse Hauled in Pick-Up?

horse hauled on pick-up

Most likely, you’ve seen a horse being transported in a carrier along the highway, but you’ve never seen it quite like this! Kerry Costello, traveling on a highway in Corrigan, spotted a horse riding in the back of someone’s pickup. Not only was this act in itself dangerous, but the truck was traveling at about 70 MPH!

Costello, shocked and scared for the animal’s well-being, reported the incident. She also took a picture of the horse, while she was next to the truck. Costello claims that horses are like money to farmers and that there was no reason for transporting this horse in such a way. The hazard lights weren’t on and the tail-gate was not in the up position. If anything spooked the horse, a dangerous situation could have occurred. In response, the driver claimed that the truck that normally pulls the horse wouldn’t start. Therefore, he chose an alternative. He claimed that he wasn’t far from his destination and he was going to a local stockyard.

These pictures and videos sparked great debates among people around the nation. While some people understood the struggle, others strongly disagreed with it. Throughout the week, social media has been fixated on this story. If people weren’t commenting on the IQ of the driver, they were commenting on the well-being of the horse. In some states, this act constitutes animal abuse. Although, in a Texas police report, the officers claimed that there wasn’t anything illegal about the transport of this animal.

So, what do you think? Do you think this was a safety hazard? Animal abuse? Or do you sympathize with the driver?
