San Antonio – Reports confirm that a San Antonio pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on Loop 410. The incident occurred at around 7 a.m. on Thursday morning.
Later reports confirmed that multiple vehicles struck the man at the time of the incident.
The man was killed near the New Braunfels Avenue exit. Traffic on the eastbound lanes of Loop 410 was backed up for hours as typical commuter traffic began to congest the scene. Therefore, traffic was delayed until about 9:50 a.m. This is when the center and right lanes were re-opened.
The San Antonio Police Department initially responded to the scene. Then, fire crews and investigators joined shortly after.
Officials report that the man was “acting erratic” in the moments leading up to his death. The man was apparently not wearing a shirt. Also, he was reportedly trying to cross the highway.
Traffic cameras picked up images of the aftermath of the incident. Police vehicles and one fire truck were seen responding at the scene. Meanwhile, a traffic camera near LP 410 at Broadway showed a long line of cars idling in traffic while officials investigated the case at the scene. Meanwhile, traffic on the westbound lanes did not appear to be affected by the accident or the police presence.
None of the drivers who struck the man were seriously injured.
The victim has not been identified. However, he has been reported as being a man in his 20s.
The investigators who initially responded to the scene are trying to determine why exactly the man was attempting to cross the highway.
